Christianity Today did a short interview with Marc Driscoll. Read it here. It is probably nothing you have not heard about him before, but I thought it was good and helps me further understand someone I really respect and support.

I know I am not going to be well-received for this, but-
What kind of positive example could a pastor, who uses foul language in the pulpit, possibly set for young people to emulate?

Because, right, after all, there couldn't be anything positive in the life and ministry of Mark Driscoll if he, like, swears and stuff, right? Ah, the children, the children. Where will Christianity be if they learn swears? And what will they think of Jesus and His mission if a pastor *gasp* uses foul language? That it's for everybody? That it's regular, blue-collar good-news? Gu-faw! Don't want them emulating that sort of pastoral example!

Well back to the post. David, I am not quite sure what point you are trying to get across so if you could clarify that would be great. Also, I think Lue makes a good point. I Don’t know much about Driscoll but I have read a part of one of his books and to me it seemed that he just tries to flaunt the liberties that he thinks he has. He seemed very crude and was making light of sin and the gospel. We are told to be in the world, living with the world and reaching the lost, BUT we are not to be of the world. To many Christians today are so concerned about not being offensive to the lost that they go to another extreme. I don’t think we play that big of a roll in salvation. God does not need me to swear, use foul language, make light of certain issues, drink, smoke, and the list goes on, in order for some to be saved. Not that these issues in themselves are wrong, but the can be used to set myself apart from the world.
Well I don’t think this is where you were intending this post to go, but I tend to lean towards Lue on this one. Take care and It will be nice to see you when you decide to come home for a visit.

Well, I guess it is time that I throw some thoughts into this discussion since it is my blog. I will make my thoughts brief: Lou, I graciously disagree with you. I could go further, but I am not sure that anything I say on the issue will change your mind. David, I agree that just because someone does something different than we do doesn’t mean we throw them away. (especially someone doing such great work for the kingdom in Seattle). Jesse, great to hear from you! I appreciate your thoughts and look forward to seeing you all as well. Jason, just to set the record straight... SI is not rubbing off on me!! It is great to hear from you all. I checked out your blog and I will be praying for your work out their. Keep in touch.
Last thought... I love Marc Driscoll and that does not mean that agree with every word the man says. It does mean that I support him and look forward to seeing more of what God will use him for in this messed up society we live him. Live for the Kingdom!!!!

I know I am coming in late on this one, however, I think it is important to note that Mark doesn't make it a pattern to throw out four letter words from the pulpit. His moniker comes from a story in Blue Like Jazz, and the infamous cuss was over a cup of coffee, not from the pulpit.
Sure he might throw out an occasional 'crap' or even 'freaking' from the pulpit (not nearly as many as Matt Chandler though). But its not like he's George Carlin or something up there. In fact, I have heard more true-blue cuss words from John Piper's preaching than from Mark Driscoll's.

I did not mean that comment as an indictment of Piper in any way. Yes I have heard him use strong language, but I think it was appropriately used--not a poor choice of words. That is all I will say, I don't want to get into any kind of blogging debate on this.
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
